EXCLUSIVE: Watch The Very First High School Recording Of Missy Higgins’ ‘All For Believing’

Beloved Aussie musician Missy Higgins has come along way since winning triple j’s Unearthed competition while she was still in high school. 2005 saw the release of her debut album, The Sound Of White, which took out Album Of The Year at that year’s ARIA Awards. She’s since gone on to have 23 ARIA nominations and nine wins throughout her career so far.

Today, Higgins shares an exclusive look at the very first recording of her very first single, All For Believing, which went on to win her Unearthed and kick off an incredibly successful career.

“This video is of me creating the very first recording of All For Believing,” shares Higgins.

“It’s the basic piano recording before we added the other sounds like percussion and cello. I am so young in this I can’t believe it was so long ago, ah! I must have been 15 or something.

“We were in a hotel room with some basic equipment recording it for Roland… technically my first gig! We chose a hotel room for the quietness factor but fate would have it that a group of bagpipe players decided to use the park right outside our window as their place to practice that day. So there’s probably some subtle hints of bagpipe in the recording somewhere!”

The recording has been shared in celebration of Higgins forthcoming release, The Special Ones – Best Of, which is due out on 23 November. The Special Ones – Best Of looks back at Higgins career so far, featuring favourite tracks like Scar, Steer, Ten Days and Futon Couch, and brand new tracks like Run So Fast (featuring Ben Abraham) and Arrows, which was recorded just days before the birth of Higgins’ daughter.

Higgins’ will be be broadcast to living rooms across the country this 25 November as part of the this year’s Ausmusic Month festivities, with Double J and ABC teaming up to share a very special concert performance that will be filmed at Melbourne’s iconic Melba Spiegeltent, with Higgins to be joined by the likes of Kasey Chambers, Peter Garrett, Gretta Ray, Dan Sultan and Abraham for the performance.
